‘Last Holiday’ Blu-ray Review

Posted by georgetheofanopoulos1 on December 26, 2008

lastholidaybluThis is a heartwarming comedy that takes cue from ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Pretty Woman’. While the film does not offer anything new, which is based off of the original 1950 version of the same name with Alec Guinness, it is still very entertaining film. The remake did very well at the box office with a worldwide total gross of $43 million dollars. In DVD sales, the film has almost matched its box office totals.

When Georgia Byrd (Queen Latifah) is a store clerk that bumps her head at work, she’s rushed to the on-site HMO-approved cut-rate medical facility, where a CAT scan on a used machine indicates she has a number of tumors in her brain. The diagnosis is that she now only has three weeks to live.

‘Eagle Eye’ Blu-ray/2 Disc Special Edition DVD Review

Posted by georgetheofanopoulos1 on December 26, 2008

eagleeyebluSprinkle a little bit of War Games over here, a tad bit of Bourne over there, and some Enemy of the State in the middle and you get ‘Eagle Eye’. This film borrows a lot from many other films that came before it, but it hits a brick wall in a few places from being a great film. ‘Eagle Eye’ is good, but the problem here is that the film tries to be true to life and also be unrealistic at the same time. This makes the viewer not take the film seriously, and that is a darn shame. The film did great at the theaters worldwide with a total gross of $174 million dollars.

‘Ghost’ Blu-ray Review

Posted by georgetheofanopoulos1 on December 24, 2008

ghostIn one of the best movies to be released in the very early 90’s, ‘Ghost’ captured the hearts of many and still leaves a lasting impression nearly 18 years later. Director Jerry Zucker is able to bring in many different genres into the film that actually works so well. This is a romantic-comedy-drama-thriller all rolled into one. 18 years later, this is still a great piece of work from the story to the performances. ‘Ghost’ at the box office was a runaway success with a worldwide total gross of $517 million dollars and a mere budget of $22 million dollars.

In ‘Ghost’, Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) and Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) are madly in love with each other. They live in New York City where everything seems to be going well for the couple. With bad there is also good that comes in this life.

‘Event Horizon’ Blu-ray Review

Posted by georgetheofanopoulos1 on December 24, 2008

eventhorizonbluEvery few years there comes a science fiction film that turns out to be such a sleeper hit and has such a huge cult following, that years later fans are still talking about that film. ‘Event Horizon’ released in 1997 and with each passing year this film has built up cult status. I am one of those people that didn’t see the film till its initial DVD release. I remember looking forward to viewing this film then and I was quite amazed that this film had garnered such a cult like following since its theatrical release. With a $60 million dollar budget, the film would not do so well at the box office with a domestic gross of $26 million dollars. Doing the math, that is a rather abysmal showing at the box office. On home video this film would go on to sell very well over the last 10 years.

‘The House Bunny’ Blu-ray Review

Posted by georgetheofanopoulos1 on December 22, 2008

thehousebunnybluLike Will Ferrell, there is something about Anna Faris that no matter the role, she can make lackluster looking films very entertaining. There is just a charm about her that light up the screen when she is in a scene. It all began with the ‘Scary Movie’ franchise where she has played a ditsy blonde and for the most part has carried over into other roles. It is the electricity that she brings in her roles that you can not dislike her performance. At the box office ‘The House Bunny’ had a total worldwide gross of $68 million dollars being a hit domestically and internationally.

‘The House Bunny’ is a film that borrows many elements from other films in the comedy genre. Shelley Darlington (Anna Faris) has just turned 27 years old living in the Playboy Mansion. Her goal is to become the centerfold for the November issue of Playboy.

‘Pulse 3’ DVD Review

Posted by georgetheofanopoulos1 on December 22, 2008

pulse3There have been many films over the years that have told the coming of a global apocalypse in many different ways. The ‘PULSE’ trilogy does a very good job in bringing the apocalypse through technology with apparitions. I enjoyed the first film with Kristen Bell as it was a bit original even though it borrowed many elements from other films in the genre. The second film, I thought was ok, but not what I expected. You can read our review of ‘PULSE 2’. In the third and final film of the trilogy, we are taken to a world that is dark, desolate, and free of technology.

The film opens with college student Adam (Rider Strong) being involved in a long distance relationship with Salwa (Noureen DeWulf) a girl from Egypt.

‘American Teen’ DVD Review

Posted by georgetheofanopoulos1 on December 22, 2008

americanteenNanette Burstein’s American Teen follows five teenagers during their senior year in high school in Warsaw, Indiana. The films main stars are a popular girl (Megan Krizmanich), the star basketball player (Colin Clemens), the band nerd (Jake Tusing), the artistic individualist (Hannah Bailey), and the heartthrob (Mitch Reinholt). It is very interesting as we follow the high and lows of their relationships.

American Teen has been marketed as a 2008 follow-up to The Breakfast Club. Its insecurity, for the most part, that links these kids throughout. Though they all attend the same small high school in Warsaw, Indiana, the four teens’ lives don’t intersect all that often, though each is vaguely familiar with each other’s personalities.

‘Super Troopers’ Blu-ray Review

Posted by georgetheofanopoulos1 on December 21, 2008

supertroopersbluThere are comedies that come along making you think to yourself that there is no chance in the world this is going to good. Going into ‘Super Troopers’, I was thinking the same thing. The branding of the film falls under the ‘Broken Lizard’ umbrella which is similar to ‘National Lampoon’s’ branding of comedies. This is a comedy that does not go for gross humor, but it goes with more gags and jokes that work really well. The film would be very successful at the theaters with a total worldwide gross of $23 million dollars with a $3 million dollar budget. It shows what a smashing success ‘Super Troopers’ became at the box office and even garnering cult status on the DVD scene.
